"ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY" COMMITTED TO OUR VALLEY’S YOUTH SINCE 1945

1945                      W.W. Hayes, Bud Huddleston, and Basil Wiggens initiated the first group of 85 boys in the old Temple Theater on June 12, 1945.

1951           Construction was completed on the clubhouse by Vollmer Bowl.

1968           A Clarkston Clubhouse came into operation at the old Whittier Middle School.

1979           The first Annual Board of Directors Auction (ABODA) took place and netted some $28,000.  Currently, this spectacular annual event nets approximately $180,000 - $200,000.

1983           One of the most dramatic and exciting changes came when the Boys Club merged with the Girls Center, Inc.  The name Valley Boys & Girls Club was adopted.

1986           A new clubhouse was built in Clarkston adjacent to Grantham Elementary School.

Wittman Farms offered for use, a small section of the family's mountain property to utilize for a camp.

1991           Realizing that Lewiston's population was expanding primarily within the

Orchards, a Capital Campaign drive was initiated.  This project was successful with an immediate 20% increase in membership.

1993           The Grand Opening of the Lewiston Orchards Club was December 18th.

1996           We broke ground at Camp Wittman for the Natural Resource Education Center Lodge.

1998           Recognizing the need for a safe positive place with structured activities, the long awaited Club at Lapwai opened its doors.  It exceeded our expectations in just the first few days with over 150 members.

Having outgrown the Grantham School site, the Clarkston Club moved to a new much larger site at Elm and 15th Streets to accommodate more kids.

2001           The Valley Boys & Girls Clubs changed its name to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lewis Clark Valley.

2003           Was a huge year for expansion.  On June 16th, we opened our doors to our Lapwai Club and on August 27th we celebrated the Grand Opening of our Guy Bennett, Jr Clarkston Club next to Highland Elementary.

2005           We celebrated 60 years of serving youth.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lewis Clark Valley is proud of its past, but our focus is on the future.  Our goal has been, and continues to be, to provide a great place for safe, supervised, affordable fun...all year long.  The concept is both very simple and very effective in building a brighter tomorrow.
